Directors Newsletter #31-17, April 22, 2018

Hello Subscribers,

Our trip to Florida was a huge success and a lot of fun! Thank you to our students for representing the Brandeis Bronco Band with dignity, class, and respect. Thanks to our chaperones for the great job of taking care of our students and keeping them safe: Jerry & Michelle Crittenden, Mercy Aguirre, Donna Alvarez, Norma Hogan, Kathy Lamoureux, Maria Mullin, Angie Palencia, Sharon Powell, Letty Reyes, Lisa Rivera, Ignacio Sierra, Jonnie Tristan, Jennifer Weidemier, and our BHS administrator Mr. McKenna.

This week we will host the Spring Spaghetti Dinner fund raiser on Tuesday, April 24th beginning at 5 p.m. at the BHS Cafeteria. We will showcase performances from the Stinson Jazz Band beginning at 5:15 p.m. followed by the Brandeis Marching Band. Students are to wear blue jeans, band shirt, and orange chucks for the performance. Each student should have sold their tickets and should turn in $35 on Monday. The Spaghetti Dinner will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Boosters will have a dessert table, spirit item table, and a live auction to sell to all in attendance, so be sure to bring some cash, check, or a credit card. Dinner tickets will also be sold at the door for $7 each. If you are available to volunteer, to help with the dinner, contact Adriana Trevino or Mercy Aguirre. Don’t forget, we are still in need of dessert items in order for us to sell at the dinner. Homemade or store bought desserts are welcomed. Again, we still have several students who have not turned money or unsold tickets, so check with your child to see if they have taken care of this issue.

This is Fiesta Week! And with that, comes several volunteer opportunities for our Band Boosters. We need Boosters and students to help with chair set up and tear down for both the Fiesta of Flowers Parade on Friday morning and the Flambeau Parade on Saturday evening. Our Band is not part of the parades, but here is a chance to still be part of either or both parades. Contact Jessica Marcha, parade chair, Booster President Jerry Crittenden, or use “Sign-Up Genius” to volunteer to help out. This year we will have the “roadies” transport the chairs needed for the parade. Contact Neal Lamoureux or Jeff Makusky to help with chair delivery.

We are in need of volunteers for the Cornyval Parking! Students age 16 and up can work shifts during daylight (until 8 pm) and students age 18 can work the “grave yard” shift, 8 pm to closing. PARENTS are also needed to volunteer to work shifts from Thursday, May 3rd through Sunday, May 6th. You can sign up to volunteer on the “Sign Up Genius” link via the band website or the Band Booster Facebook page. You can also contact Keith Kouba or Neal Lamoureux to volunteer or with questions.

This week, we begin the process to select our drum majors for the 2018-2019 Brandeis Bronco Band. Rehearsals for the candidates begin on Monday at 7:30 a.m. then after school the rest of the week, including Monday after school. Check the weekly calendar to view rehearsal schedule. The directors will need to meet with a parent/guardian on Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the main band hall in order to go over the audition process. The meeting should be quick and informative.

I hope to see a large crowd gather at the Spaghetti Dinner hosted by the Band Boosters this Tuesday. I thank you for all of the support you continue to give our band program. Lastly, thanks to our students for their hard work and commitment to “The Spirit of Brandeis” Bronco Band, in making wonderful musical memories.

Mr. H
