Summer Director’s Newsletter #1-19, July 21, 2019
Good afternoon everyone!
I hope everyone has had a safe and pleasant summer so far. While we aren't starting up with full summer band for another week, I wanted to reach out to you and get you some information.
This is what you’ll find in this week’s newsletter:
•T.B.A/2019-20 All State Music
•Disney World 2020
•Band Registration & Fees
If you have yet to take care of your student's physical, please remember that these are due at the start of band camp, July 29th. As per rules set forth by NISD, ANY STUDENT WHO HAS NOT TURNED IN THEIR PHYSICAL WILL BE SENT HOME. Please remember, these can be sent to me via email as a PDF. If necessary, you can use a free app on your phone called Adobe Scan to take care of this.
Prior to arriving at camp the first day, I recommend that all students use this week to get acclimated to the heat, particularly in the morning hours before noon. Cut the yard, wash your parent's cars, be outside! While taking time to do this, be sure you are drinking plenty of water all week. Do not wait until the day before or the day of camp to begin hydrating. You being acclimated will play a huge part in your energy level and focus throughout camp.
Moral of the story...don't be like Grumpy Cat.
The BLT will be meeting with the directors Monday - Wednesday this week from 9 am - 3 pm. We will not be doing any activities outside. Our focus will be on teaching as well as getting all logistics taken care of prior to next week. Students can wear any school appropriate clothing for this week.
T.B.A/2019-20 ALL STATE MUSIC
Thursday will be the start of the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention. At this convention they will release the 2019/20 All State Music. They are having a Student Day on Friday, July 26 to introduce this music and have performers on each instrument go over the audition material. The entry fee is $15 for students. Please visit http://www.texasbandmasters.org/convention/2019/ for more information.
Many students have been consistently turning in their checkpoints. If your student is behind, please encourage them to complete these prior to the start of camp. Winds can email these checkpoints to myself, Mr. Cuellar, and Mr. Lemanski. Percussion can email their checkpoints to Mr. Suarez and myself.
DISNEY WORLD 2020
At this point, Southwest Airlines still has not starting accepting reservations for the dates of our travel. Once these dates get opened by them, I will be sure to let you know when our flights have been finalized. With school ahead as well as band registration, payment 3 will not be due until September 1st. Please note that all band fees for the 2019/20 school year will need to be paid up to date for your payments to be applied to your trip balance.
BAND REGISTRATION & FEES
Please remember that band registration will be on August 6 for Seniors & Juniors, August 7 for Sophomores, and August 8 for Freshman. As we get closer to this, more information will be sent out, including all paperwork necessary. Our goal is to make the band registration process as efficient as possible to save you time.
If you have any questions, please be sure to email me at Daniel.Asgari@nisd.net
