Director’s Newsletter #10-19, October 27, 2019 Good evening! Here is what you will find in this week's newsletter: •FALL DINNER THANKS •DISNEY UPDATE •SOUTH TEXAS CLASSIC •PAVERS •INSTRUMENT UPGRADE •BRONCOS OF THE WEEK •GRADUATION DATE FALL DINNER THANKS Thank you to all of our students, parents, and community for coming out and participating in our annual fall dinner! You made this event a great success for our program! The time we are able to spend with one another at events like this are what make them special and memorable. A huge thank you to Las Palapas for providing all of the food for the plates, Raising Caine's and Bush's Chicken for providing tea, and parents/students for providing baskets for the silent auction, desserts to sell and all of the time volunteered for this event. I'd especially like to thank Mrs. Larisa Langley, Ms. Mercy Aguirre, Mrs. Jennifer Ramirez-Jasiczek and Mr. Chip Thompson for their combined efforts to chair this event, take on specific roles and work as a team to make this event happen! We could not have done this without you! DISNEY UPDATE We are just over 2 months out from our trip to Disney World. Last week, students were asked to submit their rooming requests. Students will have 3 roommates for a total of 4 per room. Any student rooms that are short students will have students assigned to their room to equal 4. Please remember as stated earlier, all student program fees must be paid off prior to going to Disney. SOUTH TEXAS CLASSIC

On Saturday, we will be hosting our annual South Texas Classic Drumline contest. Like last year, we have a 2 pm game happening at the same time. Having done this before, this should be a fairly smooth operation. Here is the logistic information regarding working the contest and handling our football game responsibilities.

Parents: We do not need a full roster of roadies for the game vs. Taft. We will need parents to set up drum major podiums, but will not be using any props or front ensemble equipment. If available, please consider helping with the drumline contest. Chaperone assignments will be sent by Mrs. Sanchez & Mrs. Hoeninghaus soon.

Front Ensemble students will be helping with the drumline contest all day and will not be attending the game.

Brass, Colorguard, Field Dance, Drumline and Woodwind students interested in helping at the drumline contest and earning hours, you will need to sign up with a director on Tuesday. From the list, the directors will select students to fulfill specific roles for the contest. Brass, Colorguard, Field Dance, and Drumline students selected will leave their shifts to attend the football game, and then return to the contest to complete their role immediately after.

Woodwind students selected will work the contest in its entirety.

Specific details regarding roles for the drumline contest will be discussed with students by Mr. Suarez. PAVERS With tradition being such a strong value at Brandeis, we wanted to give students and parents a chance to be a part of Brandeis forever! This year we are offering custom engraved pavers that will be placed outside of the fine arts area. 3 lines of custom text including your student’s or family name can be engraved as a keepsake. For more information or to order your custom paver, please click HERE.

INSTRUMENT UPGRADE Hillje Music is having their annual Hillje Horn Showcase on Friday, November 15th from 3 pm - 7 pm, and Saturday, November 16th from 10 am - 3 pm. This is a chance for your student to take their mouthpiece and try out upper level instruments and inquire about purchase. If your student is currently playing their instrument that was purchased for them as a beginner, you may want to consider an upgrade or upgrading portions (mouthpieces, etc) of their instrument. While student physical fundamentals can never be replaced, playing on a quality instrument is extremely important to your student’s level of achievement. The event will be held at the Hillje Northwoods location. BRONCOS OF THE WEEK Congratulations to the following students and section for earning our weekly awards!
