The South Texas Jazz Festival is open to all high school and middle school big bands, combos, and vocal

Jazz ensembles.

Format:

The South Texas Jazz Festival is a competitive event, offering directors the option to receive a

confidential rating and/or comments only. Outstanding MS/HS soloists, as well as outstanding saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and rhythm sections will be selected by the judging panel, and all ensembles that enter for a rating and receive a Superior rating from the judges will receive Superior performance plaques at the awards ceremony that evening as well as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places for Varsity, Non-Varsity, and Middle School Jazz Ensemble. All performing groups will receive digital adjudicated comments along with a recording of their performance. Each performing ensemble will receive a 20-25 minute clinic with one of their adjudicators immediately following their performance as well as a mid day combined improvisation clinic.
