Summer Director's Newsletter #4-19

Summer Director's Newsletter #4-19, August 11, 2019 Good afternoon everyone! I hope you are enjoying your weekend so far, and your students are ready to enjoy a Monday off! This is what you’ll find in this week’s newsletter: •Student Safety •Brandeis Band Wears Green •Thank You •Band Registration •Dot Shirts •Prep Days •Open House •Booster/Parent Meeting STUDENT SAFETY In light of what occurred with a student in the Holmes band this past week, and the heat wave that is expected this week, we are shifting our rehearsal schedule. We will begin rehearsal at 6:30 am Tuesday - Friday so that we can be done with our visual block outside by 10 am. Rehearsal will conclude at 3 pm this week since we are starting an hour earlier. This will also move our extended break up to 8:15 am and lunch will be from 10 am - 11:30 am. While starting so early may interrupt some of our normal routines, I feel strongly that everyone agrees the reasoning why justifies our shift. Student safety is our program's, campus's, and district's number one priority. With that being said, please make sure that your students are drinking plenty of water every day, especially on the days we do not have rehearsal. It's very easy to think that they don't need to hydrate when we are off, but this is a great opportunity for your student to ensure they are physically prepared when they return. BRANDEIS BAND WEARS GREEN During Tuesdays music block, all students are encouraged to wear a green shirt to show support for the Holmes Band! At the end of rehearsal, we will take a group picture to send over to the Holmes Band and show our Bronco support! THANK YOU We have a ton of parents to thank for all of their help these past few weeks. While I will attempt to name everyone, we've simply had SO MUCH help that I run the risk of leaving someone out. Please know that this is an oversight by me and in now way, discounts any of the time you have volunteered for us. The amount of parents we have pitching in is why our program is thriving. So with that being said, thank you to the following parents who have helped with the following items over the last 2 weeks:

  • Summer Band Concessions

  • Uniform Fittings

  • Prop Building

  • Grilling For Concessions

  • Band Registration

  • Region Meeting Organization

  • Picture Day

These parents are: Mercy Aguirre Julie Anders Linda Denness-Arvizu Brent Bjerken Debbie Breaux Corina Corona Ben Crittenden Jerry Crittenden Michelle Crittenden Susan Dickens Michelle Eddy Pete Escobar Cheri Estrada James Estrada Ken Havens Belinda Hernandez Denise Hinojosa Nancy Hoeninghaus Norma Hogan Theresa Hoggard Terri James Karla Juro Jen Lasater Heather Lotts Jeff Makusky Rebekah Osher Sara Dawkins-Phillips Letty Reyes Jimmy Reyes Cynthia Rodriguez Jesse Rodriguez Jose Rodriguez Ruby Rodriguez Terry Sanchez Nacho Sierra Bob Sinclair Terri Sinclair Roxanne Sotelo Chip Thompson Dolores Torres Naomy Ybarra Lisa Lamb Weber

We simply can not function or reach our organization goals without a strong parent booster program. If you have yet to join in and lend a helping hand, please consider doing so!

BAND REGISTRATION Thank you for everyone's patience this past week during band registration. While Wednesday took much longer than expected, we did make adjustments to speed up the process on Friday. More adjustments will be made to get this process as fast as possible to keep you from waiting. DOT SHIRTS Wind students need to mark 3 of their white t-shirts with their dot assignment using a large permanent marker. They should be discussing this with section leaders to ensure uniformity. Please make sure they wear one of these marked shirts on Tuesday morning to rehearsal. PREP DAYS Prep days are coming up this week and administration has been kind enough to help our band students complete this process during our week of rehearsal. The schedule will be as follows: SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS, & SENIORS ONLY Tuesday - 1:30 pm Woodwinds Battery Colorguard Tuesday - 2:15 pm Brass Front Ensemble Field Dance FRESHMAN Wednesday - 12:30 All Freshman OPEN HOUSE Mark your calendars now, as our annual Open House will be the first week of school on Wednesday, August 28th at 6 pm.
