Yesterday was another outstanding South Texas Jazz Festival at Brandeis. Within the 17 performing ensembles, congratulations to our outstanding Jazz Ensembles and Combo on a fantastic performance yesterday! The groups played extremely well and it's exciting to see the growth of this group throughout the year. Great job by all the students! Thank you to all of our great parent and student volunteers who did a wonderful job of hosting this event. There are so many facets that go into hosting a contest like this and it could not have been done without you. Lastly, thank you to Mr. Cuellar for creating this event. On top of leading the Brandeis jazz students and program, he spends many weeks planning out details and logistics to provide support and education for jazz music through this festival and it has turned into a premiere destination for groups across the city. Job well done! KENDRA SCOTT BAND DAY Monday, February 9th is the Bronco Band Kendra Scott Day! Just in time for Valentine's Day, in store shopping is from 6 pm - 8 pm. Don't forget that you can make phone orders ALL DAY! Just mention the Bronco Band when purchasing and 20% of your purchase will be donated to the program. More details are on the flyer below. The Varsity, Non Varsity, and Sub Non Varsity ensembles will be performing a couple of musical selections that we have been working on since returning from the winter break and Disney. Please come out and support your student during this evening of music! UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE PERFORMANCE Immediately following our ensembles mid-winter performance next Tuesday, the University of North Texas Percussion Ensemble will be performing at Brandeis. The UNT Music School is one of the top programs in the country and we are very excited to have them as a guest. The performance is FREE and open to the public. GLENN MILLER ORCHESTRA CONCERT Next Sunday, February 16th will be the Glenn Miller Orchestra concert in the Brandeis auditorium. There are less than 200 tickets still available. I highly encourage that your student attends this concert to see professional musicians in a live and up close setting. The show will begin around 5:45 pm with doors opening at 5 pm. TMEA This week is the Texas Music Educators Association conference. The conference is held in San Antonio each year at the Henry B. Gonzalez convention center. The conference include an exhibit hall that showcases nearly all instrument makers and their current models. If you are in the market for an instrument, this is usually the time you can find the best prices. The exhibit hall will be open to students starting Friday afternoon at 3pm. For more information, please visit https://www.tmea.org/conventions/2020. DISTRICT REALIGNMENT As most of you have heard by now, Brandeis and Clark HS have been realigned with all of NEISD. As of now, we will still have a Crush game early in the season, prior to district play. Additionally, we are waiting to hear if and how this will effect fine arts in the district. As we get information, we will be sure to communicate with you. This is a great opportunity for our band program. We will be facing many well established band programs, including 2 of the very best in the country, on a near weekly basis. Like us, many of these groups compete regularly outside of San Antonio so this will be a chance to see some of the competition often. As always, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me at Daniel.Asgari@nisd.net Have a great Sunday! -Mr. Asgari Week 22 2/10/20 - Monday - Freshman/A3 Rehearsal, 8 am 2/10/20 - Monday - KENDRA SCOTT SPIRIT DAY, 6 pm - 8 pm, La Cantera Mall 2/10/20 - Monday - Jazz 1 Saxes & Rhythm, 4:30 pm - 6 pm 2/10/20 - Monday - JV Winter Guard, 4:30 pm - 6 pm 2/10/20 - Monday - Percussion Rehearsal, 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm -- 2/11/20 - Tuesday - Freshman/A3 Rehearsal, 8 am 2/11/20 - Tuesday - Percussion Rehearsal, 7:30 am 2/11/20 - Tuesday - JV Winter Guard, 4:30 pm - 6 pm 2/11/20 - Tuesday - Varsity Winter Guard, 6 pm - 8 pm 2/11/20 - Tuesday - Mid Winter Concert, 6 pm 2/11/20 - Tuesday - UNT Percussion Ensemble, 7:30 pm -- 2/12/20 - Wednesday - Jazz Combo, 7:45 am 2/12/20 - Wednesday - JV Winter Guard, 4:30 pm - 6 pm 2/12/20 - Wednesday - Varsity Winter Guard, 6 pm - 8 pm 2/12/20 - Wednesday - TMEA -- 2/13/20 - Thursday - TMEA 2/13/20 - Thursday - Varsity Winter Guard, 6 pm - 8 pm -- 2/14/20 - Friday - Full Jazz, 8 am 2/14/20 - Friday - Valentine's Day 2/14/20 - Friday - TMEA -- 2/15/20 - Saturday - TMEA Week 23 - TENTATIVE 2/17/20 - Monday - STUDENT HOLIDAY -- 2/18/20 - Tuesday - Non - Varsity WWs, 8 am 2/18/20 - Tuesday - Varsity Winter Guard, 6 pm - 8 pm 2/18/20 - Tuesday - Jazz Rehearsal 2/18/20 - Tuesday - Percussion Rehearsal -- 2/19/20 - Wednesday - Freshman WWs, 4:30 pm - 6 pm 2/19/20 - Wednesday - JV Winter Guard, 4:30 pm - 6 pm 2/19/20 - Wednesday - Jazz Rehearsal 2/19/20 - Wednesday - Percussion Rehearsal -- 2/20/20 - Thursday - Varsity WWs, 8 am 2/20/20 - Thursday - Varsity Winter Guard, 6 pm - 8 pm 2/20/20 - Thursday - Percussion Rehearsal 2/20/20 - Thursday - Jazz Rehearsal -- 2/21/20 - Friday - Full Varsity Ensemble, 8 am -- 2/22/20 - Saturday - Winter Guard Contest, Harlandale HS, TBA
