Directors Newsletter #32-17, April 29, 2018

Hello Subscribers,

A huge THANK YOU goes out to Adriana Trevino, Mercy Aguirre, and the Spring Dinner Committee for a successful spaghetti dinner and auction. Thanks to all who helped with the spaghetti dinner in serving, ticket sales, dessert table, spirit item table, and donations of desserts. Thanks also to Booster President Jerry Crittenden for his auctioneer skills, in bringing home top dollar for the live auction. Thanks, to our ever so hard working students, for performing at the event and providing a musical atmosphere after a long week of school and rehearsals. Lastly, thanks to our feeder Stinson Middle School, for bringing their very talented students to be a part of our dinner show. A reminder to parents, students still need to turn in unsold tickets or money from tickets sold on Monday. We need to wrap up total sales and profit from the Spaghetti Dinner.

A huge THANKS to Jessica Marcha for taking charge of the parade chairs at Main and Soledad for both day and night parades. Thanks to all who helped Jessica with this fund raising event. Special shout out to Neal Lamoureux, roadie chair, for using our band trailer to pick up chairs and deliver them to the parade site. This saved us a huge amount of money.

This week, we will start the process of putting together 2018-2019 Band Leadership Team (BLT). On Wednesday, May 2nd, at 7:30 a.m. we will have the “Student Vote” as part of the drum major audition. Each candidate will conduct the A1 Band/Drumline and tell students why they are the best choice to be drum major. Students in attendance will then vote for the candidate most fit to be drum major. Students must be in the main band hall before doors are locked to begin audition. Parents are welcome to attend and watch this process. On Wednesday after school, the drum major candidates will audition for invited judges for the final audition phase. This portion of the audition is a closed audition. We wish the candidates the best of luck with the audition process. The percussion students will meet every day from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. to rehearse and audition the percussion material.

The Full Orchestra Winds and Percussion will rehearse on Thursday at 7:30 a.m. in order to prepare for the Orchestra’s performance for the Spring Concert. Check the weekly schedule to view all of the rehearsals for our students.

ATTENTION PARENTS AND STUDENTS:

We have another busy week for our parents and students working the Cornyval Festival in Helotes. Our Band Boosters earn $4500 for working as parking lot attendant. All money goes directly to our students. Parents and students are urged to help out to make this a successful event. Please donate 4 hours of your time to help. Cornyval begins on Thursday and runs through Sunday. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS TO HELP OUT WITH THIS VERY IMPORTANT COMMUNITY SERVICE, SO PLEASE SIGN UP!

Reserve your shifts now using Sign-Up Genius posted on the band website at www.brandeisband.org

If you cannot get signed up, send a note indicating the shift you want and the names of the volunteers to Keith Kouba or Neal Lamoureux and they will sign you up!

On Thursday, May 10th the Band Boosters will be serving lunch to the Brandeis Faculty and staff for Teacher Appreciation Week. If you would like to volunteer to help serve, please contact at: Bronco Band Boosters Hospitality

Attention Seniors: The Band Booster Scholarship applications are due to Mr. Cuellar on Thursday, May 4th by 4:30 p.m. Also, band/guard members were given an invitation with information about cost, deadline, and times for the Band Banquet this past week. Ask your child for the information.

Lastly, make plans to attend the final Band Booster meeting of the school year next week on Tuesday, May 8th at 7 p.m. which is our “elections meeting”. So please attend to vote for your Booster Board and don’t forget to bring a potluck dish to share with others. The Booster Board will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday to prepare for the general meeting. Thank you for all of your help and support of the “Spirit of Brandeis” Bronco Band.
