Directors Newsletter #35-17, May 20, 2018

Hello Friends of the Bronco Band,

The Band Banquet was a great success! Thanks to Jonnie Tristan and her committee for decorating and hosting a beautifully designed banquet to the Phantom of the Opera theme. Special shout out to Ronda Ebner for making the Banquet Award sashes. Congrats to all of our award winners including Band Beau Bailey Hungate and Band Sweetheart Abrianna McCray. Congrats to the Class of 2018 for receiving their Senior Service Award. Thank you, senior class, for all of your hard work and dedication to The “Spirit of Brandeis” Bronco Band.

I hope you had a chance to attend and listen to our very talented students at last Thursday’s Spring Band concert. All three concert bands performed at a high level of expertise. This week we have two concerts and a meeting for parents and students to attend. On Tuesday, the A1 Band will perform a concert at The Tobin Center at 6 p.m., on Wednesday, the Full Orchestra will present their spring concert at 7 p.m. and on Thursday, parents and student will have a chance to meet and visit with the new head director at “Meet The Director” Meeting at 7 p.m. Both the Full Orchestra Concert and Meet the Director meeting will be held in the BHS Auditorium. All three events are free to the public!

As mentioned, the Brandeis A1 Varsity Symphonic Band will be performing at The Tobin Center on Tuesday, May 22 at 6 p.m. as part of the Youth Orchestra of San Antonio (YOSA) Invitational. A1 Band members will be dismissed at 3:10 p.m.; dress in formal attire at 3:20 p.m.; and depart at 3:45 p.m. Arrival time at the performance site is 4:30 p.m., warm-up time is at 5 p.m. and performance time is at 6 p.m. A group photo will follow the performance and then depart for BHS by 7:30 p.m. The performance is free to the public, so I hope you can attend the last band concert of the year.

Congratulations to our newly elected 2018-19 Band Booster Board: President Jonnie Tristan; 1st Vice Jerry Crittenden; 2nd Vice President Marianne Pinkston; Treasurer Michelle Crittenden; and Secretary Letty Reyes.

A BIG Thanks goes out to our 2017-18 Board members: Jerry Crittenden, Marianne Pinkston, Jonnie Tristan, Michelle Crittenden, and Letty Reyes, for their tireless work and service to the Brandeis Bronco Band Boosters, Inc. Thanks to all of the chairs and co-chairs who made all of our events successful fund raisers. You all are very much appreciated! Special shout out to our active Band Boosters who are “graduating”: Donna Alvarez, Dave and Kelly Bambacigno, Raul Chapa, Ronda Ebner, Rob and Kathy Franklin, Beverly Guerrero, Nancy Hoeninghaus, Liqun Jin, Neal and Kathy Lamoureux, Heather Lotts, Angie Palencia, Lisa Rivera, and Mario Sosa. Thank you for all of your service to the Bronco Band!

I hope you can attend the Band performance at the Tobin on Tuesday and the Full Orchestra concert on Wednesday. The students have been working hard and the concerts are sure to be a wonderful experience for all in attendance. I hope you can attend to meet the new band director on Thursday.

Lastly, on a personal note, I thank everyone for the love and support shown to me the last couple of weeks. From the parent/student surprise party on the drill pad to the thoughtful gifts, letters, and video montage at the Spring Concert, plus the wonderful mariachi group and kind words expressed to me by alumni, parents, and students. It truly is the most heartfelt and meaningful show of gratitude I have ever received and I’m extremely appreciative to all of you. Thank you for your continued support of the “Spirit of Brandeis” Bronco Band.

Mr. H
