Directors Newsletter #37, June 3rd

Directors Newsletter #37-17, June 3, 2018

Hello Subscribers,

Congratulations to our soloist: Madeline Wood twirler, Ben Walls horn, Antonio Jasiczek flute, and Jackson Wood snare drum, for winning a first division gold medal at the UIL State Solo competition at UT Austin on Monday. Congrats also to our clarinet trio for receiving a first division on their ensemble. Members are Juan Cantu, Eric Jin, and Adam Kuhn. The flute quartet and woodwind trio received a second division rating. Thanks to all of these students for competing and representing the Bronco Band at the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest.

This week is our last week of school, with semester testing, locker clean outs, and instrument check-in. The semester final schedule is posted at the end of this newsletter or you can find it on the band website. If students want to check-out a school instrument for the summer, they will need to fill out an instrument check out form, that requires a parent signature and bring a $30 summer check out fee. See Mr. Cuellar to pick up a form and for the check out process. Students must attend their semester final band/guard class. All students must attend their band/guard class during testing in order to clean out band lockers and other areas around both band halls.

The summer band schedule, football schedule, and band calendar for the 2018-2019 school year has been posted on the band website www.brandeisband.org. For questions, email the band staff at: daniel.asgari@nisd.net, jesse.cuellar@nisd.net, or david.suarez@nisd.net. For questions about the booster club email the booster president Jonnie Tristan: rjonnie31@gmail.com or 1st VP Jerry Crittenden: jerry@ovationfinancialservices.com.

There are many wonderful band/guard camps throughout the state for students to attend. Locally, we have the St. Mary’s University Band Camp, the UTSA High School band camp, and the Texas State University Band Camp. If you are interested in sending your child to a Band Camp and need guidance of where to send them, email the directors and we will provide a list of camps according to your students needs. I encourage students to go to the Texas Bandmasters Association Clinic/Convention to attend the Student Day leadership seminar on Friday, July 27, where students will also get to hear the all state etudes and have access to the exhibit hall. Cost for the student day is $15 and runs from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center.

The Brandeis Band has had a successful year from performances on the field to the stage, mainly because of the dedication our students have to do their very best. This will be my last newsletter for the Brandeis Bronco Band. Thanks to all of the students and boosters who have provided me the love and support throughout the last ten years. Thanks to all of the parents who served on the booster board that helped make the BBBB, Inc. the best booster club our district has to offer. Last year, the boosters surprised the staff by purchasing a brick that lay in front of the new gym. I can’t thank you enough for that thoughtful gesture you gave the band staff. For our students, I hope you’ve enjoyed the music we’ve made and learned the valuable life lessons that will carry you throughout your life. I know the tradition of excellence will continue to thrive for the Bronco Band for many years to come and for that I am grateful and excited for your future. This is not so much a good bye for me, but more of a “see you later”. Have a wonderful and safe summer.

Over and out,

Mr. H
