Director’s Newsletter - Summer Band #1 - 18, July 1, 2018

Hello everyone,

I hope you have enjoyed your summer so far. As we make the turn into July, it won’t be long before the band hall is full of activity, and marching season is fully upon us.

With that being said, I'd like to wish all of you a safe and happy 4th of July! I hope all of you enjoy a day off and get to spend time with your friends, family, and loved ones.

Here are a few details about some upcoming rehearsals and camps.

Our percussion section will begin meeting weekly this month, in addition to our full camp happening the week of the 16th. The weekly rehearsals will be from 9am - 4pm, and the full week of camp will be from 9am - 7pm.

On Saturday, July 21, DCI San Antonio will be happening at the Alamodome. If you or your student has not been to a DCI event, it is a great opportunity to see some of the best marching programs in the world. You can get schedule and ticket information at DCI.org.

The colorguard will have their camp the following week, starting the 23rd from 9am - 4pm with Mrs. King. Please remind your students that if they took any equipment home over the break, to bring those items with them to camp. All of our guard members will also be fitted for their show uniform during camp as well.

During the same week, our leadership team will be meeting from 9am - 1pm. All leaders should have read Leadership 101 before camp, and need bring their books with them every day. Other than taking care of logistics for full band rehearsal, we will be taking time to work on leadership skills discussed in this book.

Full band rehearsal begins July 30th and every member is required to attend. Students need to have white t-shirt and navy blue shorts, proper athletic low top shoes (no chucks, vans, sandals, etc.), sunglasses, hats, sunblock, water jugs or camel backs, and their show music memorized. Parents, please make sure that your students instruments are in good playing condition. If needed, now is the time to get instruments a maintenance check up at a local music shop.

At the very bottom, you will find a recap of these dates and times. Also, be sure to stay up to date on all events and times on the website as the most up to date information will always be posted.

Lastly, but certainly not least, I’d like to thank all of the students, parents, and staff for welcoming me to the Brandeis family with open arms. Everyone has been so helpful during the transition and I look forward to leading our family into the next era of our program. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at Daniel.Asgari@nisd.net.

See you soon!

-Mr. Asgari
