Director's Newsletter #4-18, September 16

Director’s Newsletter - #4 - 18,  September 16, 2018

Hello everyone,

While the week was full of rain, it certainly didn’t stop our Broncos from accomplishing some great things this week.

A very big congratulations to ALL students who auditioned for Region Jazz this Saturday at Clark HS. Bronco Jazz won 8 chairs in the two jazz bands. With 8 chairs earned, this is another year that Brandeis Jazz has earned the most chairs in all of Region 29!

Congratulations to our All-Region Jazz Band Members: Logan Francesco, 6th Chair-Trumpet, Leo Filyk, 9th Chair-Trumpet, Jared Barry, Trombone-6th Chair, Micah Ware, Guitar-2nd Chair, and Nevin Fink, Piano-2nd Chair.

Congratulations to our All-Area Jazz Band Members: Cade Kouba, Bari Sax-1st Chair, Ian Aigner-Varoz, Trumpet-1st Chair, and Andrew Flores, Drum Set-2nd Chair, and BEST OF LUCK taping for state on October 3rd.

In addition to our students, Mr. Cuellar also deserves so much recognition and appreciation for leading our Jazz program with great teaching. He takes so much time to prepare our students for success, in all facets of our band program and deserves to be applauded for his great work.

Way to go Brandeis Jazz!

Congratulations to our Brandeis Twirlers, Madeline Wood and Daniella Torres! Both of these great students competed at UIL Twirling Solo & Ensemble Contest at Stevens HS and earned 1st divisions! They have qualified for the State Contest which will take place later this year. Not every school has twirlers and I know just how lucky we are to have both of these students representing Brandeis at the highest level. Great Job Maddie & Daniella!!

Additional congratulations are in order for Bronco Beats, the Brandeis Percussion Section. They competed at the Thunder in the Hills Drumline Contest at Dripping Springs HS on Saturday. Bronco Beats had their best outing at this very early season contest, placing 5th out of 12 in the Advanced category. Congratulations to the students on not only this contest but all of the hours they have put in, starting in the summer, leading up to this contest. Additionally, a very big thank you to Mr. Suarez & Mr. King for leading our percussion section. They spend countless hours working very hard to lead our students and this would not be possible without their great teaching. I’m excited to see our percussion section continue to grow through the rest of the marching season and year.

Congratulations to Clarinet player Marina Hinojosa, Alto Sax player Cristian Vo, Guard member Isabella Guerra, Horn Section Leader Ben Walls, and the Alto Saxophones for being awarded our Freshman, Band Member, Guard Member, Officer, and Section of the Week respectively. Great job to all for their hard work this week. We will be sure to recognize them again, next week at the football game!

And of course...we have to thank our amazing Bronco parents! We had SO MANY parents, many who don’t have a student in the percussion section, help chaperone, roadie, and transport our group to Dripping Springs. Additionally, we had many more parents show up to the band hall Saturday evening, ready to take on the rain!

Our community is amazing, and deserve so much praise for all that you do for our program and kids. I’d also like to take time to thank Dr. Berger for ALWAYS putting our kids and their safety first. We are so lucky that she is our leader at Brandeis and she does everything possible to take care of the Broncos! We appreciate you so much, Dr. Berger.

Now onto some reminders and upcoming events...

Continue to vote for the Bronco Band as your favorite TNL band of the season! Text BAND3 to 44332 an UNLIMITED amount of times to vote for the Bronco Band and help the program win a $5,000 grant for the 3rd year in a row!

Progress reports come out on this week. Please make sure that you check these to ensure that your student is on track with their academic goals. As most of you know, all students must pass all classes every 6 weeks to continue participation with the band, outside of school hours. If you have any questions on eligibility, please email me.

Our Fall Dinner is coming up soon and a letter regarding our Silent Auction has gone out. If you missed it, you can see it here. Additionally, a pre-order for our show shirts has begun and that order form was sent out as well. You can find that here to get more information on how to get your shirt!

On Monday, we will have rehearsal until 7 pm as we have Mr. Jason Robb from Leander ISD coming to work with our students. Please be sure to adjust your schedule accordingly.

As a last reminder, the game this week is on Saturday again. Please be sure that your student eats prior to reporting to the band hall as we will not be providing a meal. Report time is below with the rest of the schedule for the week.

As always, if you have any questions, please contact me at Daniel.Asgari@nisd.net.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and GO BRONCOS!

-Mr. Asgari
